Baptism
At Baptism, we pray over the water:
"Father, look now with love upon your Church, and unseal for
her the fountain of baptism. By the power of the Holy Spirit give
to this water the grace of your Son, so that in the sacrament of
baptism all those whom you have created in your likeness may be
cleansed from sin and rise to a new birth of innocence by water and
the Holy Spirit" (Christian Initiation of Adults,
#222A).
Although one does not have to be a member of Blessed Sacrament
Parish, it is important to be understood there are certain
guidelines that must be followed if one is to be baptized in our
church.
- One parent must be of the Roman Catholic faith
- One Godparent must be of the Roman Catholic faith
- The age of the Godparent must be 16 or of sufficient age of
maturity to understand the full role of Godparent.
- Non-Catholic can act as a witness of a baptism
- Baptisms are generally done during the Saturday or Sunday mass,
with only one baptism per mass.
- A meeting is held once a month for parents, godparents and
child/adult to be baptized. An information package is sent
out prior to this meeting to prepare parents.
- Parents must attend Baptismal Preparation prior to setting a
date.
For more information, contact the parish office to make
arrangements.
