1st EUCHARIST - 2009/2010

At Eucharist, with our sins washed away and clothed with the Spirit, we are led to the banquet table of the Lord's Supper. At each Eucharist we ask God to send the Spirit upon the bread and wine so that they become for us the Body and Blood of Christ. Then we pray that the Holy Spirit come upon us—we who eat and drink—so that we may become the Body of Christ.

Each Eucharist sustains our ongoing conversion, our ongoing faith journey into the Mystery of Christ. At each Eucharist we are invited to enter ever more deeply into the Body of Christ. The saying, "You are what you eat," certainly holds true here. St. Augustine said: "If then you are the body of Christ and his members, it is your sacrament that reposes on the altar of the Lord....Be what you see; and receive what you are" (Sermon 272).

Children receiving 1st Eucharist/First Communion will celebrate on April 18, 2010

  • There will be a late Registrants meeting on Sunday November 15th. The child and an adult family member must attend. This is your last chance to join this years' programme. Call Ermine at 613 692 7605 by November 12th to reserve a space in the programme and for all the necessary information. Copy of your child's baptismal certificate required; bring when registering. Workbook fee of $10 is required, as well. Recent wallet sized photo is also required.
  • Reconciliation and First Eucharist This year we will be following a program called “On our Way with Jesus,” a home-study journey where your child’s Christian Initiation takes root within his or her family, is supported by a catechist, and wholly prepares them for Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

We will be using the “We Discover God’s Paths” workbook to prepare for Reconciliation and the “We Share in the Eucharist” workbook to prepare for First Eucharist.

Your child will have an assigned Catechist who will check in with you or your child about once a week to offer support relative to materials being covered and to answer any questions which may arise.

The program is based on weekly themes which can be covered incrementally as the week progresses i.e. before bedtime activity, or can be done at one session i.e. following Sunday Mass, if that works best for you and your child.

We have built “catch up” time into the lesson schedule to allow for some flexibility within our busy schedules. .
